Bible vs. Book of Mormon:
A Side-by-Side Comparison
1. Nature of God
• Bible: God is eternal, unchanging, and all-powerful (Malachi 3:6; Psalm 90:2).
• Book of Mormon: Teaches that God was once a man and became God (Joseph Smith’s teachings, inconsistent with the Bible).
2. Salvation by Grace vs. Works
• Bible: Salvation is by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9).
• Book of Mormon: Suggests grace is only after all personal effort (2 Nephi 25:23).
3. The Gospel Message
• Bible: The Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
• Book of Mormon: Introduces additional teachings and a different account of Jesus appearing in the Americas, which is not found in Scripture.
4. Finality of Scripture
• Bible: The Word of God is complete; warnings are given against adding to it (Revelation 22:18-19).
• Book of Mormon: Claims to be “another testament of Jesus Christ,” contradicting the Bible’s statement of completion.
5. Jesus Christ
• Bible: Jesus is the eternal Son of God, uncreated, and one with the Father (John 1:1-3; John 10:30).
• Book of Mormon: Initially aligns with biblical teachings but later Mormon doctrine suggests Jesus and Satan were spiritual siblings, a concept not supported in Scripture.
6. Heaven and Exaltation
• Bible: Believers will dwell with God eternally, but there are no tiers of exaltation (John 14:2-3).
• Book of Mormon: Introduces the concept of multiple levels of heaven and exaltation, including becoming gods, which is contrary to biblical teachings (Isaiah 43:10).
Key Contradictions
1. The Nature of God:
• The Bible teaches one eternal God; Mormonism teaches multiple gods and that God was once a man.
2. Salvation:
• The Bible teaches salvation by grace alone; Mormonism adds works and rituals.
3. Scripture:
• The Bible is complete; Mormonism adds the Book of Mormon and modern prophets.
4. Jesus:
• The Bible teaches Jesus is God; Mormonism teaches He is a created being.
5. Afterlife:
• The Bible teaches two eternal outcomes (heaven or hell); Mormonism teaches multiple levels of heaven.
Why This Matters
• Mormon Doctrine Contradicts the Bible: If two sources of truth contradict, one must be false. The Bible warns against false prophets and teachings (Galatians 1:8-9).
• Salvation is at Stake: Adding works to grace nullifies the gospel (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Final Call
The Bible alone is God’s Word and reveals His true nature and plan for salvation. Trust in Jesus Christ, not man-made doctrines, for eternal life (John 14:6).
