Jesus Christ: The Son of God

Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. He is not just a man, not just a teacher or prophet, but the eternal Son of God who stepped into human history to save us from sin. He is both fully God and fully man (John 1:14). His life, death, and resurrection demonstrate unparalleled strength, courage, love, and the ultimate victory over sin and death.

His Coming

Jesus’ arrival was no ordinary event. Prophets had foretold His birth for centuries. Born of a virgin in Bethlehem (Isaiah 7:14; Micah 5:2), He came into the world humbly, in a manger, yet He came with a mission: to save humanity. The angels declared at His birth, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests” (Luke 2:14).

His Life and Teachings

Jesus lived a sinless life, teaching about the Kingdom of God with authority and clarity. He challenged the religious hypocrisy of His day, calling people to repentance and faith in God.

• Love and Compassion:

Jesus loved the outcasts, healed the sick, and forgave sinners. He showed mercy to those who society rejected, like tax collectors, lepers, and the poor. His love was not weak or passive; it was active, bold, and transformative.

• Wisdom and Truth:

Jesus taught profound truths, using parables to reveal God’s heart and His Kingdom. His words, such as in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), set a standard for righteous living and revealed God’s character.

• Strength and Authority:

Jesus was not “just a nice guy.” He was strong, confronting injustice and rebuking evil without hesitation. When He cleared the temple of corruption (John 2:13-16) or silenced His accusers with wisdom, He displayed the strength of a warrior, yet always acted with love and purpose.

His Death and Suffering

Jesus willingly chose to die for humanity, knowing the brutality He would endure. He was betrayed by one of His closest followers, falsely accused, and sentenced to death by crucifixion—the most torturous punishment of the time.

• The Pain of the Cross:

Jesus was scourged with whips, tearing His flesh. A crown of thorns was pressed onto His head, causing blood to stream down His face. He was mocked, beaten, and forced to carry His cross to Golgotha. Nails were driven through His hands and feet, and He was lifted onto the cross to die an excruciating death.

As He hung there, He bore the weight of all sin—every evil act, every moment of shame and guilt. The physical agony was immense, but the spiritual burden was even greater. In that moment, Jesus cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46), as He experienced the separation from God that sin brings.

• His Final Words:

Jesus’ last words on the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30), declared the victory over sin. He died so we could have life.

His Resurrection

Three days after His death, Jesus rose from the grave, defeating death and proving His divine nature. The resurrection is the foundation of Christian faith—it shows that Jesus has power over sin and death, offering eternal life to all who believe in Him (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

• The Empty Tomb:

When the women went to the tomb, they found it empty. Angels proclaimed, “He is not here; He has risen!” (Luke 24:6).

• Appearances:

Jesus appeared to His disciples and many others after His resurrection. He walked with them, taught them, and gave them peace and hope. Over 500 witnesses saw Him alive (1 Corinthians 15:6), confirming His resurrection as historical fact.

Before He Ascended

Before returning to heaven, Jesus gave His disciples a mission: to spread the good news of salvation to all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). He promised to send the Holy Spirit as a guide and comforter (John 14:16-17). Then, He ascended into heaven, seated at the right hand of God, where He intercedes for us (Acts 1:9-11; Hebrews 7:25).

His Return

Jesus will return one day, not as a suffering servant, but as a victorious King and righteous Judge. His second coming will be unmistakable:

• Glory and Power:

“For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

• Judgment:

Jesus will judge the living and the dead (2 Timothy 4:1). Those who have trusted in Him will receive eternal life, but those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God (Matthew 25:31-46).

• Restoration:

He will bring a new heaven and a new earth where there is no more pain, suffering, or death (Revelation 21:4).

What Jesus Means for You

Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection offer you forgiveness, freedom, and eternal life. His suffering was for you, His resurrection secures hope for you, and His return will bring the ultimate restoration of all things.

Jesus is not just a historical figure or a good teacher. He is the Son of God, your Savior, and the King who will reign forever. The question is: Will you trust Him with your life?
